Oboe Studio Recital

Our annual Oboe Studio Recitals give students experience performing for an audience of family and friends. This event is a highlight of the year, showcasing oboists of all levels playing beautiful music from the oboe repertoire. Oboists perform solos accompanied by piano and develop performance poise. Graduating seniors are featured in their own ensemble. The grand finale is a performance by the All-Studio Ensemble. All students are recognized for their hard work during the year and enjoy celebrating afterwards!

In 2021, we had our first ever Outdoor Oboe Recital!

Student ensembles performed “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and works by Albinoni in honor of his 350th birthday. See the ensemble videos on our lemkestudio YouTube channel.

In 2020, we held an online recital with virtual ensembles celebrating Beethoven’s 250th Birthday. See the ensemble videos on our lemkestudio YouTube channel.

“One of my favorite moments of the year is seeing and hearing all the oboists playing together—it always makes me feel joyful.”

“Congratulations on your recital! I was very impressed with the attendance and the great care to every detail in the performance and the organization of the event. You are a wonderful musician and a great teacher.”

Master Class

Master classes with distinguished guest artists have been sponsored by the Cranbrook Peforming Arts Department & Special and Summer Programs, giving students the opportunity to meet and learn from these oboists. Classes have been given by Detroit Symphony Orchestra oboists Donald Baker, Alexander Kinmonth, Sarah Lewis, and Monica Fosnaugh, as well as distinguished oboists and educators Joan Berndt, Dr. Nancy Ambrose King, Daniel Stolper, and Danna Sundet.

“Lila went to the DSO Friday night to see Variations on a Theme by Paganini composed by Rachmaninoff. She was so moved she wanted to see it again Saturday night and she insisted we go as well. We so enjoyed listening to the many oboe solos played by Alex Kinmonth and we also saw Sarah Lewis—both players she met through your studio. The oboe has added so much to all of our lives and changed the way we appreciate music. “

Oboe Party

The annual Oboe Party is a chance for oboe students and their families to meet and enjoy music, refreshments, and holiday cheer! The party is a valuable opportunity for students to gain experience performing in a relaxed setting. Students perform holiday solos & duets and groups of students perform ensembles together.

“Thank you so much for putting together the Oboe Party. It was really the highlight of our weekend! The students’ pieces were really wonderful.”

“You provide so many wonderful extras through your studio. We really appreciate it!“

Community Outreach

Oboists from our studio have performed at area assisted living facilities to spread joy to the elderly residents. Students play solos and ensembles they have learned and residents join in playing rhythm instruments.

“The residents of American House truly enjoyed the performance. One of the residents sitting near me said, ‘This is going to be interesting!’ when you were giving information about the oboe. Another resident was conducting enthusiastically right along with you! I am grateful that we were part of the event. It is always nice to give back to our community.”

“Thank you again for continuing to provide such enriching and engaging experiences for your students.”
